To take a screenshot on any HP laptop or computer, press the Print Screen key, generally labeled as “prt sc.” You can also screenshot on HP tablet by pressing the Power and Volume down button simultaneously.

Taking a screenshot of your computer’s active window can be helpful in so many ways. For example, maybe you want to visually illustrate to your colleagues or employees how to carry out certain tasks or capture an error message to your company’s IT department for troubleshooting feedback. You can also capture a social media post like a tweet before they disappear.

Whatever the reason, taking a screenshot on your HP laptop, desktop computer, or tablet is very easy irrespective of the kind of HP model you own.

All it takes is just a few clicks or taps using the Print Screen key.

HP laptop or computer

All HP computers and laptops have a Print screen key dedicated to taking screenshots; it’s located along the top row of function keys and is often labeled as “prt sc” or “prt scn” depending on your model. On most HP laptops and computers, the Print Screen key can be found beside the Delete key.

The process of taking a screenshot on your HP laptop or computer is as simple as pressing the Print Screen key. Just go to the page you want to screenshot on your computer and click prt sc. The screenshot will immediately be copied and saved to your clipboard.

There are several other ways to use the Print Screen key, such as capturing just a portion of the screen or specific windows. Below are several PrtScn modifiers to take screenshots on any HP laptop, desktop, or tablet:

PrtScn: This method will not save your screenshot as a file, but it will copy the entire screen to the clipboard – you can then paste it elsewhere (such as an image editing tool like Microsoft Word or Paint) and save it as a file.

Alt + PrtScn: This will capture the currently active window and copy the screenshot to the clipboard, which you can paste elsewhere in another program (such as Microsoft Word or Paint) and save it as a file.

Windows key + PrtScn: This will capture the entire screen and automatically save the screenshot as an image file. The screen will momentarily dim to signal that you’ve taken a screenshot. It will be saved in the Pictures > Screenshots folder.

Windows key + Shift + S: Your screen will dim and your mouse cursor will change. Drag to select the part of the screen you want to capture. Your screenshot will be copied to the clipboard. Note that this method only works on the latest version of Windows, called Windows 10 Creators Update.

HP tablet

The process for taking a screenshot on an HP tablet is different from a laptop or computer. First, there’s no keyboard, and second, it’s more similar to taking a screenshot on your phone.

To take a screenshot on your HP tablet:

1. Navigate to the page you want to capture.

2. Press and hold the Power button and the Volume Down button simultaneously for about two seconds.

3. Your screen will flash and your screenshot will be captured.

The screenshot will automatically be saved to the tablet’s Photos folder.
