Whenever your car needs gas, it’s now easy to find the nearest gas station just by using Google Maps. At least, you know about one, two, or three gas stations close to where you live or work, but what happens when you are far away from home or on a road trip and need to refuel? Thanks to Google Maps, it’s now easy to get all the gas info you need, including the best gas station at the right price for you.
Google Maps is the best navigation app of many, and we’ve all had to use it on our smartphones to get directions and locate a destination, but not many people know they can also find the nearest gas station using Google Maps. This article explains the step-by-step process of discovering the nearest gas station to you.
How to find the nearest open gas station on Google Maps (Android)
The Google Map functionality for locating nearby gas stations is a smart feature worth using. To get started:
1. Open Google Maps on your phone.
2. Tap on the Gas station icon. Otherwise, you can type a specific gas station into the search box at the top if you’re looking for a particular station.
3. After you tap the Gas station icon, Google Maps will show bubbles of all the gas stations near you or along your route, with each gas station’s name, distance, and current gas price.
4. Tap your preferred station, and Google Maps will set it as your next stop.
Additionally, you can use filters to find a specific gas station. Once you type Gas into the search box at the top, Google Maps will show filters containing gas stations you previously visited, haven’t visited, or gas stations that are open now. You can also tap on More filters to see more options.
Furthermore, you can filter available gas stations by distance or relevance. The custom filter section allows you to see at what time of day a specific gas station will open – a fantastic option for those working late and eager to know if there are nearby gas stations that are still open.
Once you narrow down your search using the filters, the next step is to tap the blue Apply button at the bottom of the page. Google Maps will then show you the results specific to your filter selections.
Google Maps will show you the gas station info, such as:
- If you previously visited or not
- Open hours
- Phone numbers
You can also view the gas station search results using the Map View or View list. The View list option is easier to view the result. Tap the particular gas station you prefer to see all the necessary information.
After stopping at the gas station, Google Maps will continue navigation to your initial destination. To remove the gas station stop, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and tap Remove stop.
You may not necessarily need to use Google Maps right now to find your nearest gas station, but it’s an excellent option to have, allowing you to quickly find a suitable gas station while you’re driving any route. In addition, you can filter to find the cheapest fuel and narrow it down to your favorite option.
Google Maps has so many other features apart from finding nearby gas stations. You can also use it to find the nearest grocery stores and restaurants.
